Peggy Wallace Kennedy

welcome back history admirers! we had a speaker at our school today for MLK community time, her name was Peggy Wallace Kennedy. she was the daughter of the Governor of Alabama, George Wallace. her speech was very powerful, it included all this stuff about "don't judge a book by its cover" and "be nice to everyone". when she was in her tweens, she had to hear her father be incredibly racist while speaking to the state of alabama. governor wallace was in the running for governor as a racial moderate his first time and didn't get governor. then he ran for it again as a racist and became governor. its sad to think that in alabama we were so segregated and just non-accepting of other races. i mean in MLK most famous speech he mentioned alabama and was talking about how he hopes that a white girl and black girl will hold hands together and a black boy and white boy will hold hands together down in alabama. after MLK was shot peggy and MLK daughter, bernice king. they held hands together down in alabama. i thought this was a very powerful moment during her speech, even though her father was taught to be racist and taught peggy to be racist, peggy still believed in what she believed in and showed the world the MLKs dream came true. "I have a dream," he said, and that dream came true by bernice and peggy.

here is a picture of bernice and peggy reuniting after 50 years from being apart.
